Using CommYou in Facebook
A note upfront: this is a very early release. CommYou is only up to its "alpha" release, which means that there are still many missing features and bugs. If you'd prefer to wait for something more polished, come back in a couple of months. But if you want to come play from the beginning, and help us figure out how to build something insanely great, read on. CommYou is all about having conversations with your social network; it isn't a social network itself. We figure that you have enough networks already -- you don't want to keep track of more of them. So you use CommYou inside an existing social network. The first one was Facebook. As of this writing, that still works fine, but is using a slightly older user interface that hasn't been rewritten yet. If you have an account on LiveJournal, you might want to instead see CommYou for LiveJournal Users. To start with, you'll need a Facebook account. Go to http://www.facebook.com/ to set one up. It's free, and pretty easy to get started. We recommend looking up friends and friending them inside Facebook -- CommYou is all about conversation, and you have to have people to converse with for it to be interesting. Once you have that, just go to the CommYou Facebook Application. The first time you use it, it will ask for permission to access your data; say yes. (Otherwise, CommYou can't get at your social network, which makes it a little pointless.) At that point, CommYou should show up in the list of applications on your Facebook Home page (if not, select the little "more" link at the bottom of that); you can always get to CommYou from there. Or, just click here to go directly to it. Have fun!
